Spring Festival to be celebrated in Chișinău with artistic performance

The Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year will be celebrated in Chișinău with an artistic performance organized by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Moldova. The event will take place on February 12, 2026, between 18:00 and 20:00, and will bring to the stage of the National Theatre “Mihai Eminescu” an artistic band from Fujian Province, China.

The program of the performance includes traditional dances, songs, puppet theatre and Chinese acrobatics, offering the audience an insight into China’s ancient culture and traditions. The Spring Festival, inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is one of the most important celebrations of Chinese culture, symbolizing family unity and community solidarity.

The Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year, is one of the oldest and most important holidays of Chinese culture, celebrated for over 3,000 years. Its origins date back to the Shang dynasty, initially linked to agricultural rituals and the beginning of a new cycle of nature. The holiday marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year, whose date varies between late January and mid-February, and is traditionally celebrated over a period of 15 days. The festival symbolizes renewal, prosperity and family unity, and in 2024 it was included on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
