
Challenges in Moldovan-Romanian Ukrainian transport sector discussed with relevant EU Commissioner
Chisinau, April 13 / MOLDPRES /- Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, together with Minister of Transport of Romania Sorin Grindeanu and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Mustafa Nayyem discussed yesterday during a video conference with Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport.
Officials have addressed several issues in the region's transport sector under current conditions, with priority given to liberalizing road transport for Ukraine and Moldova and ways to expand routes and export capacity for Ukraine, including through Moldova, to the European Union, especially through Danube ports. Galați, Tulcea and Sulina, but also through the port of Constanța.
In his speech, Andrei Spinu requested the support of European partners for the liberalization of freight transport, reducing the waiting time at customs at the border with Romania, as well as the construction of several bridges (RO-MD and MD-UA) and connecting our country to trans-European networks (TEN-T).
The Deputy Prime Minister also reiterated the interest of the Ministry for the modernization of the railway field, on issues related to the rehabilitation of the railway, including the European gauge, the endowment of CFM with wagons for passenger transport, but also freight.
In the naval field, Spinu referred to the concentration of efforts for the expansion of the State Port of Giurgiulesti and the raising of its commercial capacities, as well as investments in the opening of temporary keys.
In order to ensure food security in the region, it is currently intended to negotiate agreements on the liberalization of road transport with Ukraine and Moldova. The new agreements will facilitate the access of road carriers from Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
