Energocom company of Moldova says natural gas price continue to rise on European exchange

The price of natural gas traded on the European market reached 74.35 euros/MWh today, continuing the upward trend recorded on recent days, the Energocom company has reported. For comparison, the TTF (Title Transfer Facility) price stood at 68.32euros/MWh on August 24 and 69.81 euros/MWh on August 31.

Energocom emphasized that the development was driven by escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and risks surrounding energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

“The cut in liquefied natural gas (LNG) flows from the Persian Gulf and the uncertainty surrounding their resumption are keeping pressure on available supply on the global market,” the institution said.

At the same time, pressure is further amplified by low storage levels, Energocom noted. European gas storage facilities are currently around 65 per cent full, approximately 16–17 percentage points below the average for the past five years.

Another important factor is competition between Europe and Asia for LNG. Strong demand in Asia and reduced deliveries from Qatar are limiting the availability of cargoes for the European market. At the same time, the extension of the force majeure situation in Qatar has led to the cancellation of 29 LNG cargoes, equivalent to approximately 3.8 billion cubic meters.

According to Energocom, prices for the coming months are also remaining at high levels. For deliveries during the October 2026–March 2027 period, prices currently range between approximately 67.9 euros and 74.4 euros/MWh, with the highest values recorded for the first months of the cold season.
