DOC // Amendment to methodology for calculating tariffs in road transport published in Official Journal

The Government’s decision to amend the methodology for calculating tariffs for passenger road transport has been published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova. Adopted at an extraordinary meeting held yesterday, the new regulation introduces a tariff adjustment mechanism designed to unblock the crisis in the interurban transport sector and prevent the isolation of localities across the country.

The publication of the normative act marks the official entry into force of the new provisions, giving the National Road Transport Agency (ANTA) the legal basis to apply provisional tariffs, necessary in the context of economic pressures and the imminent risk of suspension of regular routes.

The Executive’s decision comes as an emergency response to the alarm signals issued by transport operators in recent days. Under the new provisions, the authorities have established a control and transparency tool that allows travel costs to be quickly adjusted to fuel market fluctuations, without going through lengthy administrative procedures that could have led to a system collapse.

The central objective of this mechanism is to protect citizens’ right to mobility. Through this intervention, the state aims to ensure the continuity of public services so that people in rural areas can continue to get to work, educational institutions or medical services, avoiding a scenario in which routes would have been cancelled due to unprofitability, according to Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea.
