Speaker - 108 years after Union of Bessarabia with Romania

Speaker Igor Grosu delivered a message today on the 108th anniversary of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania, emphasizing the importance of this historic moment and the need to strengthen relations between the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

“Today, on March 27, on a day with profound symbolic significance, we mark the Union of Bessarabia with Romania – an act of national will that enshrined the unity of our nation, language, and destiny. This date remains a landmark of dignity and of our shared aspirations,” the speaker stated.

Igor Grosu highlighted the constant support provided by Romania during the difficult times the Republic of Moldova has gone through.

“Romania stood by us during the pandemic, has been at our side for more than four years since the war broke out at our border, supports us when we are left in the cold and in the dark, and backs us on our European path,” he noted.

At the same time, the official referred to the recent interventions by the Romanian authorities in emergency situations, including in the case of pollution of the Dniester River.

“The best way to honor that historic moment is to strengthen the ties between people on both banks of the Prut. And this is what we are doing. Thank you, Romania! Congratulations, dear Romanians!” he concluded.

The Union of Bessarabia with Romania took place on March 27, 1918, when the Sfatul Țării voted in favor of uniting this province with the Kingdom of Romania. This vote was a major historic moment in the process of forming Greater Romania, a state that, in 1918, brought together several historical provinces inhabited by Romanians.
