Disinformation about reservists' training: Moldovan Defense Ministry provides clarifications
The Defense Ministry today issued official clarifications, following the spread of false information about the revision of the Armed Forces’ reserve training system.
The institution emphasized that the proposal concerned a new form of military training that is shorter, more flexible and adapted to the needs of young people.
Presently, young people can follow three types of training: 12-month compulsory military service, three-month reduced-term military service for people with higher education and a four-month military department (university military course).
The new proposal introduces a form of training of approximately six weeks, meant to provide a shorter alternative without affecting the issuance of the military service record book.
“For example, an 18-year-old young person who studies at a university could undergo up to six weeks of military training and, upon completion, will receive the military service record book. Thus, it will no longer be necessary to attend the four-month military department,” the Defense Ministry’s statement reads.
In addition, individuals who have not completed military training by the age of 27 and are placed in the reserve will be able to take part in this initial form of training. Participants will arrive at military units in the morning and return home in the evening.
The ministry also specified that women would be able to participate voluntarily in the training and would receive a military service record book.
The institution urged citizens to rely on official sources of information, in order to avoid disinformation.
