Prime Minister conveys message on anniversary of Bessarabia's Union with Romania

The Republic of Moldova celebrates today the 108th anniversary of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania, a landmark historical event that continues to define the state’s identity and European path. On this occasion, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu delivered a message highlighting the indissoluble ties between the two banks of the Prut River, emphasizing the transition from historical memory to concrete projects that are modernizing citizens’ lives today.

The official described Romania as the most stable and reliable partner of the Republic of Moldova, stressing that the closeness between the two states is not only geographical or linguistic, but is expressed through actions that are changing the everyday reality of local communities.

In his message, Munteanu focused on infrastructure and social assistance projects financed by Romania, which are bringing the two banks ever closer. Among these are the construction and rehabilitation of bridges over the Prut, as well as investments in the renovation of kindergartens, providing European-level conditions for children in the Republic of Moldova.

“Today we also celebrate a present in which the banks of the Prut are ever closer – through projects that change the life of every citizen – from modern kindergartens and bridges that connect us physically, to unconditional support for our European path,” the prime minister stated.

The official reiterated that the unity of language, values, and traditions represents the foundation on which a common future of peace and prosperity is being built within the larger European family. To underline the educational dimension of this celebration, the prime minister invited citizens and researchers to explore the original documents of the period. He noted the online availability of files from Sfatul Țării Fund (1917–1932), accessible on the official platform of the National Archives.

The prime minister’s message concluded with congratulations to all those who “feel and live as Romanians on both banks of the Prut,” reaffirming the Government’s commitment to keeping the Republic of Moldova on the irreversible path of democratization and full integration into the European value space alongside Romania.
