VIDEO // Over 2,000 service members to march on Independence Day

Over 2,000 service members and employees of law enforcement institutions will take part in the military parade dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova. The event will take place on August 27 this year, in the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN).

Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi said that this year the parade will be a tribute to those who fought for the country’s freedom and independence, as well as to those who protect it today.

“This will be about the cohesion between institutions, the bond between generations, respect for national values, interoperability and strong partnerships. The event will not be only about modern equipment, but about the people who have sworn an oath of allegiance to the Republic of Moldova and who, every day, carry out their missions with dedication to the citizens and the country,” Anatolie Nosatîi noted.

Color guard groups made up of service members from Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, France, the Czech Republic and the United States of America will be present in the Great National Assembly Square. In addition, 150 veterans of the war for the country’s independence and territorial integrity will march in two formations.

“On August 27, over 2,000 service members and employees of law enforcement institutions will march in the city center, alongside veterans and contingents from partner states. The performance of the troops will be followed by more than 100 units of military and special equipment. Overall, the military parade will convey a message of confidence that the Republic of Moldova has institutions prepared to defend our peace, security and common future. Dear citizens, on August 27 I urge you to support and admire them at the parade in the Great National Assembly Square, where we will celebrate together 35 years of Independence,” Anatolie Nosatîi remarked.

The Ministry of Defense announces that on August 11, 13, 18 and 20 joint training sessions will be held between 08:00 and 10:00, under the bridge on the Hîncești Road, in the Telecentru district, on the section between Lech Kaczyński Street and Sprâncenoaia Street. General rehearsals will take place on August 21 and August 25, in the Great National Assembly Square, between 22:00 and 00:00.

Also, rehearsals involving military and special equipment will take place on August 11 and 13, on the national route M3, on the segment between the bridge sector and the L458 road and Băcioii Noi Street, between 09:00 and 12:00.

President Maia Sandu signed, on August 5, the Decree on holding the military parade on the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova. The official underlined that “the event reflects the efforts made in recent years to strengthen defense capabilities and the authorities’ commitment to ensuring peace and the safety of citizens.”

Independence Day will be marked through a series of events that were included in a decision recently approved by the Government. According to the document, the authorities plan to organize more than twenty cultural, educational, commemorative and festive activities that will take place throughout the entire year.
