DOC // Published in Official Journal: allowances of up to 300,000 lei for teachers deciding to work at other schools following reorganization

Teachers, school principals and auxiliary teaching staff who agree to take jobs in other institutions following the reorganization of the schools where they have worked will be able to receive a one-off allowance of up to 300,000 lei. The regulation setting out the conditions for relocation was published in the Official Journal today.

The financial support will be paid in two equal installments of 150,000 lei each. The first installment will be paid within 30 days from employment in institutions located in other administrative-territorial units, and the second after six months, provided that the person continues to work in the institution where they were employed.

The regulation also stipulates that teachers who choose to leave their position before the end of a five-year period will have to repay the allowance in full. Exceptions are cases in which the contract ends for reasons beyond their control or when the Ministry of Education and Research approves a new relocation.

According to the document, relocation is a last-resort solution and can be applied only after all possibilities for employment in schools within the same administrative-territorial unit have been exhausted.

According to data from the Ministry of Education and Research, 73 educational institutions are to be reorganized this year, which represents approximately 6% of the total number of public schools in the country. Around 1,300 students study in these institutions, less than 0.5% of the total number of students.

683 teaching staff members are currently employed in the 73 institutions. Estimates show that most of them will be able to continue their activity in other educational institutions within the same district, given the shortage of teaching staff in the education system. 9 million lei have been earmarked for the allowance to support teachers who will be required to move.
