Energization of Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line might take place in next June
The installation works within the project on construction of the Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line are to be completed by the end of May, and the energization of the line is planned for next June. State Secretary of the Energy Ministry Carolina Novac has made statements to this effect.
The official said that the implementation level had reached 75 per cent at the 400 kV Vulcanesti Substation, at the Chișinău Substation – 80 per cent, while on the power line construction side the progress is 95 per cent.
"In terms of schedule, the installation works are meant to be completed by the end of May. The contract is valid until the end of June, and the energization of the line is planned for June 2026. We have weekly monitoring and verification meetings, so that we can ensure the work is carried out according to the indicated timeline," said Carolina Novac.
The Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line has a length of approximately 157 km and connects the 400 kV Vulcanesti Substation with the 330 kV Chisinau Substation. The transmission capacity of the line is up to 630 MVA, which will allow coverage of more than 50 per cent of Moldova’s consumption during peak periods. The Vulcanesti–Chisinau overhead power line is part of the Moldova Power System Development Project, financed by the World Bank Group. The total value of the project is approximately 61 million euros, of which around 27 million euros is allocated for the construction of the power line.
The project is implemented by Moldova’s government, through the Energy Ministry and UCIPE – the Energy Projects Implementation Unit, and the direct beneficiary is the state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica.
