Prime Minister about case of minor who died at military unit in Cahul
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said today that it is important to clarify all the circumstances of the tragedy in Cahul, where a minor died in a military unit, and the investigation must examine where mistakes were made and who bears responsibility. We need the truth, not hasty conclusions, Alexandru Munteanu said at the beginning of today’s Government meeting.
“The case in Cahul is a tragedy and we must treat it with the utmost seriousness. It is important that all the circumstances are clarified. I have already spoken with Minister Anatolie Nosatîi and Minister Emil Ceban to analyze where mistakes were made and who bears responsibility for this tragedy. And we do not need hasty conclusions; we need truth and responsibility. I have personally committed to follow this case together with my fellow ministers. Mr. Nosatîi, please inform us about the investigation currently underway,” Alexandru Munteanu emphasized.
A 16-year-old minor died after an incident at a military unit in Cahul. The police were notified after the improper handling of a firearm led to the injury of a soldier and the death of a minor. According to the police, a 20-year-old contract soldier allegedly mishandled a Glock-type weapon while he was together with a 16-year-old minor who was visiting another 18-year-old conscript.
Following an accidental shot, the 18-year-old conscript was wounded and urgently transported to the hospital. Doctors stated that he is out of any danger. Regarding the 16-year-old minor, it was initially announced that he went into shock immediately after the incident and lost consciousness. The General Inspectorate of Police later reported that law enforcement officers were informed by the forensic doctor examining the minor’s body that he had been pierced by the same bullet that wounded the conscript.
