Moldelectrica enterprise conducts first transactions in Electricity Balancing Market

The State Enterprise (SE) Moldelectrica has conducted its first transactions within the Electricity Balancing Market. This action took place following the completion of the qualification process and the signing of the related contractual framework.

Thus, on December 31, 2025, the first bids for balancing energy were submitted, marking the first transactions based on dispatch orders issued by the Transmission System Operator (TSO), in accordance with the electricity market rules.

The Electricity Balancing Market, along with the System Services Market, was launched on September 22, 2025, under the amendments made to the electricity market rules and the related normative framework approved by the National Energy Regulatory Agency.

“The implementation of these market mechanisms represents an important step in the consolidation process and the safe work of all components of the wholesale electricity market of Moldova, in accordance with the current regulatory framework and the provisions of national, regional and Pan-European Terms, Conditions and Methodologies to be implemented during 2026,” Moldelectrica said.

The Electricity Balancing Market will allow for real-time correction of imbalances between consumption and production, thereby enhancing the balance and stability of the system. This is a crucial step in ensuring a more stable and reliable power system, capable of meeting current security and flexibility demands.

At the same time, by implementing this mechanism, the premises for a more transparent and competitive market aligned with European standards are being created, giving participants the opportunity to actively contribute to the balancing processes and the development of a more efficient and sustainable energy sector. Additionally, the new rules pave the way for the gradual integration of renewable energy sources and the expansion of the necessary framework for Moldova’s participation in the regional and European electricity market.

In accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Law, the electricity market consists of the bilateral contracts market and organized electricity markets, which include: the day-ahead market - DAM and the intraday market - IDM, the balancing electricity market, and the system services market.
