Moldova climbs to 18th place globally in Greenfield investment performance ranking

The Republic of Moldova rises to 18th place globally in the Greenfield investment performance ranking, according to Financial Times analysis. According to the global foreign direct investment performance ranking conducted by FDI Intelligence, the Republic of Moldova has moved up 19 positions compared to the previous year, reaching the 18th place globally and ranking among the economies with the highest growth in this area.

According to the Investment Agency's data, in 2023–2024, the Republic of Moldova recorded a 71.4% increase in the number of foreign direct greenfield investment projects, from 7 to 12 announced projects. The total value of these projects rose by 25.7%, reaching 314.4 million dollars. Over the past five years, the value of greenfield investments has increased 2.4 times, reveals the Investment Agency's data.

Greenfield investments are foreign direct investments where a company or investor builds a new facility or production unit from scratch in a foreign country. This involves the development of new infrastructure, buildings, and operations, rather than acquiring an existing business. This type of investment contributes to creating new jobs, technology transfer, and the development of local capacities.

Statistical data shows that the number of registered companies with foreign and mixed capital in the Republic of Moldova has grown steadily over the past four years, surpassing 2100 last year. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Doina Nistor has previously said that the figures show that "Moldova is becoming a strategic choice for investors, and their trust shows us that the approach towards the European Union and alignment with European standards is not only the right direction but also the most efficient way to attract investments, even in complex global contexts like now."

According to the data from the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization, investments made by Moldovan companies also registered a 15% growth in 2024, followed by an advance of nearly 27% in the first quarter of 2025.
