Moldova strengthens role in regional logistics: strategic quadrilateral meeting in Brussels
The Republic of Moldova continues to expand its strategic partnerships to modernize and secure transport infrastructure in Southeast Europe. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) Vladimir Bolea took part in a high-level meeting held in Brussels, Moldova – Ukraine – Romania – European Union format.
The main goal of the discussions was to synchronize the efforts of the four parties to address current logistical challenges and to accelerate the integration of national transport networks into the European system.
During the dialogue, officials placed particular emphasis on identifying and developing alternative routes for freight transport.
“In the context of the need to maintain stable trade flows, solutions were analyzed to optimize sectors such as: rail transport – increasing transit capacity and track gauge interoperability; road transport – easing traffic through dedicated logistics corridors; inland waterway transport – capitalizing on the potential of the Danube and related port infrastructure. These measures are essential to ensure the resilience of supply chains and to reduce waiting times at border crossings,” MIDR explained.
Another major item on the meeting’s agenda was the status of projects to modernize border crossing points. The discussions focused specifically on accessing and implementing investments through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
“This European financial instrument is the main pillar through which the Republic of Moldova can achieve sustainable connections with Romania and, by extension, with the rest of the European Union. The modernization of customs and access infrastructure will facilitate not only the transport of goods, but also the mobility of citizens, increasing the level of transport security across the entire region,” Vladimir Bolea stated.
The participation of the Republic of Moldova in this quadrilateral format reconfirms the country’s status as a reliable partner in ensuring European logistical stability. The development of transport corridors connected to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) remains an absolute priority for the Government in Chișinău.
Through these initiatives, the Republic of Moldova is not only modernizing its own infrastructure, but also actively contributing to the security and mobility architecture of the entire EU bloc.
