Moldovan Reintegration Policies Bureau says EU stays main foreign economic partner for companies from Transnistrian region

The exports made by economic agents from the Transnistrian region to European Union (EU) member states accounted for 76.9 per cent of the total volume of external commercial transactions in the first half of 2025. On the same period, imports into the region from the EU stood at 45.8 per cent of the total volume of goods introduced to Moldova.

According to the Reintegration Policies Bureau (BPR), the main export destinations from the region include Romania, Italy and Germany, while the principal import partners are Ukraine, Romania and Poland.

“Even amid the difficulties caused by the energy and economic crisis faced by the Transnistrian region, the neighboring states of Moldova – Romania and Ukraine – as well as the entire European Union market, continue to be stable and reliable trading partners for economic agents from the left bank of Dniester. Thus, these indicators confirm a clear trend of strengthening economic ties between the business environment of the Transnistrian region and the markets of the European Union, maintaining the EU as the principal commercial partner of the region,” the institution said.

Last year, 83 per cent of exports from the Transnistrian region went to European Union countries. Statistics data show that exports from the region to the EU market increased from 64.4 per cent in 2014 to 83 per cent in 2024 during a period of 10 years. The main destinations for economic agents' exports to EU markets were Romania, Poland, Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic.

At the same time, in recent years, all commercial transactions from the Transnistrian region with external markets have been conducted through checkpoints monitored by the Customs Service of Moldova, based on national model permits.
