New natural gas tariffs for final consumers approved by ANRE

The National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) today approved the new natural gas tariffs for end consumers.

Thus, citizens will pay 24.20 lei per cubic meter of natural gas, excluding VAT, compared with the current price of 18.79 lei, excluding VAT, representing an increase of 5.41 lei. VAT of 8% will be added to the tariff set by ANRE.

ANRE Director Alexei Taran said at the ANRE meeting that the decision to adjust prices was dictated by rising gas prices on international markets, as Moldova is dependent on imports.


“The situation is driven by the accelerated increase in the purchase price of natural gas. We do not produce natural gas and are exposed to volatility on international markets. To stop the accumulation of tariff deviations, intervention to adjust the price was necessary. In addition, as we are approaching the cold season, when consumption is high, we must ensure that the supplier has the necessary resources to carry out procurement and supply procedures. Prices reflect the current market situation,” Alexei Taran said at the ANRE meeting.


ANRE’s decision was approved after Energocom submitted a request to adjust prices. According to the institution, the request was prompted by changes in natural gas procurement costs, generated by external factors independent of the supplier’s activity. Thus, since the last request for a price adjustment, submitted on July 15, 2026, the European gas market has recorded a 42.15% increase, according to data presented by the supplier. The increase was driven by heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, reduced liquefied natural gas deliveries, low European storage levels, competition with Asian markets for available volumes, and uncertainties regarding supply during the cold season.


“When the regulated prices currently in force were approved, an average natural gas procurement price of approximately EUR 56.25/MWh was used for the August–December 2026 period. Subsequently, European natural gas markets recorded significant increases in TTF benchmark prices, which exceeded EUR 75/MWh. Under these conditions, the company is recording negative tariff deviations, meaning it is procuring gas at prices higher than those included in the tariff, and is legally required to request that ANRE revise the tariffs,” Energocom said.


During the ANRE meeting at which the decision to approve the new tariffs was being examined, several citizens came to the institution to protest, saying they were dissatisfied with the increases.

The last change to the natural gas tariffs paid by final consumers was approved in August this year and entered into force on September 1.
