“Parliament through children’s eyes”: pupils of Moldova express vision of democracy through art

Chisinau, September 28, 2026 — The Parliament Through Children’s Eyes workshop has brought together art-loving pupils from the Artico Republican Children and Youth Center and the Igor Vieru Academic Lyceum of Fine Arts from the Moldovan capital. The pupils were given opportunity to showcase their creativity through drawings inspired by parliamentary activity and democratic values.

The pupils worked in more teams, each addressing a different subject. Some chose to illustrate national symbols and the parliament building, including the plenary session hall and the Europe Hall – spaces where parliamentary activities take place, debates are held and laws are adopted.

The theme, Moldova – One Big Family, was explored by one team, while another group illustrated how state institutions work. The children were also interested in the work of MPs, depicting through their drawings the process of electing lawmakers, voting at plenary meetings and their professions. Family and childhood were other subjects addressed by the participants.

MP Marcela Adam and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Tamara Gheorghita attended the event. The officials praised the pupils’ creativity and involvement, as well as their interest in the work of state institutions. In their messages to the children, they emphasized the importance of civic education and the younger generation’s participation in the life of the society.

“Tomorrow, as citizens, you will be the ones to build the future of Moldova. Your presence in parliament brings more color and more light. We, the MPs, create laws for the citizens of Moldova, so that we can live in peace and mutual understanding, while you create beauty,” MP Marcela Adam said.

For her part, Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Tamara Gheorghita thanked the students for their participation and creativity. “We wish that inspiration never leaves you and that you continue to develop your creativity through the works you create at the institutions where you study,” Tamara Gheorghita said.

The Parliament Through Children’s Eyes creative workshop is part of a string of activities organized by the parliament in connection with the International Day of Democracy, aimed at bringing the legislative institution closer to citizens and encouraging civic participation and education among the younger generation. Through art, the pupils had the opportunity to learn more about the parliament and creatively express how they view state institutions, democracy and the country in which they live.
