Moldovan president condemns Russia’s latest attacks on Ukraine: “Russia must answer for its crimes”

President Maia Sandu has condemned the latest attacks on Ukraine, following the airstrikes launched last night and this morning against more Ukrainian cities and communities. The head of state stressed that Russia must answer for its crimes and that Ukraine must continue to receive support.

“Russia is attacking Ukraine non-stop. Last night and this morning, cities and communities across the country were subjected to airstrikes and innocent people lost their lives. In Kyiv, the National Academy of Sciences, civilian homes and a medical facility were bombed. In Kharkiv, dozens of people were injured, including children,” Maia Sandu wrote on her Facebook page.

The president said that the attacks were affecting people and the infrastructure on which daily life depends.

“All these attacks demonstrate that Russia is deliberately targeting people—in their homes, their economy and the infrastructure on which their daily lives depend. Russia must answer for its crimes and Ukraine must continue to be supported in its right to live freely and in peace,” Maia Sandu also wrote.

On the night of 27 to 28 September, Russia attacked data and communications centers, energy facilities and the infrastructure of a military airfield in Ukraine’s Kyiv region, as well as logistics and port facilities in the Odesa region. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, commercial vessels, a shipyard in the port of Izmail and a base of the Ukrainian Border Guard Service were also hit.
