Moldovan PM has dialogue with Romanian investors
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has participated, as part of Moldova Business Week 2026, in the Moldova – Romania Investment Roundtable. The event brought together more than 60 representatives of Romanian companies investing and developing businesses in Moldova.
The PM welcomed the Romanian investments already made in the country and encouraged companies to expand their presence on the Moldovan market. “In Chisinau, you have a pro-business government. We will be a partner to investors, and we want such meetings to result in as many companies as possible choosing to invest and develop in Moldova,” said Vasile Tofan.
The prime minister highlighted the advantages offered to investors, including a 12-per cent corporate profit tax and a 0-per cent rate on reinvested profits for companies with revenues of up to 200 million lei. At the same time, the government intends to continue reducing bureaucracy and simplifying companies’ interaction with the state.
In the context of advancing on the European path, the PM noted that the experience of Romania and Romanian companies can help capitalize on the investment opportunities opening up for Moldova. “We cannot compete through the size of our market, but we can compete through agility, less bureaucracy and speed,” Vasile Tofan emphasized.
The discussions also addressed the difficulties faced by investors, including the recognition of professional certifications. The prime minister noted that the government supported the recognition of European certifications wherever possible: “If you have a certificate in the EU, including in Romania, our intention is to have it recognized as equivalent. As a direction, our vision is that anything authorized in the EU should also be recognized in Moldova.”
The prime minister also encouraged investment funds with a regional presence, including those operating from Romania, to include Moldova among their investment destinations.
Romania is Moldova’s main trading partner. The bilateral trade in goods amounts to approximately 3.16 billion euros, while Romania is the destination market for 29 per cent of Moldovan exports. Romanian investments in Moldova are estimated at 442 million euros, and more than 1,700 companies with Romanian capital operate in the country.
