More than 1,000 people participated in activities dedicated to parliamentary openness in September

More than 1,000 citizens from different localities across the country, as well as tourists from 17 countries, visited Parliament in September and participated in activities dedicated to promoting democracy and citizen participation in the decision-making process. The programme included meetings with MPs, civic education activities, legislative simulation exercises, intellectual games and creative workshops.

Throughout the month, visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the work of Parliament, the legislative process and the role of citizens in decision-making. Educational and interactive activities were organised for different age groups.

An important part of the programme was dedicated to pupils and students. They took part in Democracy Hour, legislative process simulations, games and other activities designed to give them a practical perspective on how Parliament works and how laws are adopted. At the end, the children and young people left suggestions for a stronger democracy in a specially arranged box.

Children from Igor Vieru Academic Lyceum of Fine Arts and Artico Republican Centre for Children and Youth also took part in the creative workshop Parliament through the Eyes of Children. Young volunteers from Caritas Moldova charity foundation also had the opportunity to be parliamentary journalists for a day. They prepared an interview, a photo gallery and a video report from an event organised at Parliament.

Another important event of the month was the 2026 edition of the national patriotic music festival and competition “I Sing to You, Homeland and Nation”. More than 500 artists from across the country participated in the festival gala, held in Parliament Square, where they promoted national values through music.

As part of efforts to promote civic participation and youth involvement in the decision-making process, Parliament hosted the national launch session of the ninth edition of „Sub cușma lui Guguță” programme, organised by the Intellectual Games Association of the Republic of Moldova.

Also in September, the sixth edition of the intellectual game “LAW for YOU(th)” took place. High school students from Fălești, Orhei and Chișinău developed legislative initiatives, which they presented and put to a vote during a simulation of a parliamentary plenary session.

The series of activities dedicated to parliamentary openness concluded with the documentary performance “Night Written in Red”, directed by Luminița Țâcu, with the participation of actors from The Nameless Theatre. The performance brought to the public’s attention the lives of two young women affected by the Soviet totalitarian regime, Asea Andruh and Lilia Neagu, as well as the persecution directed against people who freely expressed their convictions.

The programme of activities dedicated to parliamentary openness has been organised annually by Parliament since 2017 and is dedicated to the International Day of Democracy, observed on 15 September. Established through a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, the International Day of Democracy highlights the importance of democracy and democratic values around the world.
