Railway of Moldova state enterprise to have real-time railway infrastructure monitoring center

The Railway of Moldova state enterprise (CFM) has put into operation a new real-time monitoring center for railway infrastructure. The project was carried out with the support of the Government of the United States of America through the EXBS Programme.

The new center enables real-time monitoring of the railway infrastructure, providing live video streams from cameras installed in depots, on locomotives of trains in circulation, as well as from other railway facilities across the entire territory of the country.

The project includes the installation of video cameras with thermal sensors, GPS equipment for train tracking and lighting systems at strategic points along railway routes.

The ceremony of the Center’s inauguration was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea and Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nick Pietrowicz. The official handed a symbolic control device to the Director General of CFM, Serghei Cotelnic, marking the formal transfer of the system to the project’s beneficiary.

According to CFM, the implementation of the project contributes to strengthening the security of railway infrastructure, increasing safety levels, protecting critical infrastructure and aligning with European security standards, while also supporting national security and the smooth work of regional logistics flows.

Statistics data analyzed by CFM shows that, in last December alone, the train traffic monitoring system made it possible to save over 14 tons of diesel fuel by reducing consumption for preheating locomotives during periods of low temperatures.
