Moldova and Ukraine initialed new sanitary-veterinary certificates for poultry meat and feed

The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine have initialed new models of sanitary-veterinary certificates for animal feed and poultry meat, which have been thoroughly reviewed and aligned with the latest international standards and European Union legislation. The new certificate models ensure strict compliance with sanitary-veterinary and safety requirements, providing an increased level of protection for consumer health and animal populations.

The event took place during the visit to Ukraine of the delegation of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), led by Director General Radu Musteața, who held meetings with representatives of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, headed by the Service Chief Serhii Tkachuk.

During the dialogue, the parties established a clear and predictable algorithm for resuming imports of animal feed, poultry meat and poultry meat products.

Director General of ANSA Radu Musteața said that the update of veterinary certificates for poultry meat and feed represents a concrete step towards harmonizing the requirements of the Republic of Moldova with the legal framework of the European Union.

“This is a measure that not only facilitates trade, but also provides a solid basis for ensuring that public health and food safety remain absolute priorities in bilateral trade relations. We highly value the cooperation with the competent authority in Ukraine and will continue our efforts to protect consumer health and to develop new opportunities for the business environment both in the Republic of Moldova and in the neighboring country,” Musteața said.

At the end of January, the National Food Safety Agency temporarily suspended imports of poultry meat and poultry meat products from Ukraine, following the detection of traces of metronidazole—an antibiotic banned for animals intended for consumption—in feed and in laboratory samples analyzed by the authorities. Subsequently, Moldova and Ukraine agreed on the resumption of poultry meat exports, but under certain imposed conditions.
