Russian federal sanitary service bans import of pants made in Moldova
Chisinau, 1 December /MOLDPRES/- The Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being (Rospotrebnodzor) banned the import of a batch of pants made in Moldova on grounds of toxicity and non-compliance with the requirements.
Rospotrebnodzor department in Breansk region, states in a press release published on the institution’s official web-page that the service has stopped 4,658 tons of men's pants made in Moldova from entering Russia’s territory.
According to Russian experts who carried out an expertise, the pants contained a large amount of toxic benzoic acid or benzene, and were also irregularly marked. The Russian press states that benzoic acid, usually used as fuel, intoxicates the nervous and blood system, causing impotence.
Moscow put an embargo on the import of Moldovan alcoholic beverages on 10 September 2013, in force until now. As a consequence, Moldovan producers have suffered financial losses amounting to 40-60 million dollars per year. The import of fruits and cans from Moldova has been prohibited in 2014. However, the embargo was gradually lifted, as an experiment, over 2015.
