Moldovan winemakers win 80 medals at one of largest international competitions

Moldovan winemakers have won 80 medals at VINARIUM International Wine Contest 2026, one of the largest international wine competitions in Central and Eastern Europe.

Producers from the Republic of Moldova returned from this edition with 80 medals, including 4 Grand Gold, 72 gold medals and 4 silver medals.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the result confirms the level of recognition enjoyed by Wines of Moldova among international experts and contributes to promoting the wine sector on foreign markets.

The contest, now in its 23rd edition, took place on 28–31 May 2026 in Ploiești and Dealu Mare region of Romania. The participation of wineries from the Republic of Moldova was supported by the National Office of Vine and Wine.

In total, 42 wineries from our country entered the competition. The VINARIUM International Wine Contest annually brings together producers, expert tasters and specialists from the wine sector from several countries, serving as an international platform for wine evaluation. The 2026 edition included 1,346 samples from 20 countries, evaluated by a jury of 41 experts from 16 countries.

The wine sector remains strategic for the national economy, contributing about 16% to the value of agriculture in the Republic of Moldova, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. In 2024, wine exports reached 234.7 million dollars, and the industry provides around 150,000 jobs.
