Three regional roads to be repaired with World Bank support
Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/- Three regional roads will be repaired with World Bank support. The works will be carried out after Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu and World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Inguna Dobraja signed the Loan Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development worth $92.4 million and the Financing Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the International Development Association for $5.6 million to implement Moldova Rural Connectivity Project.
The three regional roads that have been selected as priorities for repair are Corridor 5, R13 - Ivanovca-Izvoare-Varnița-Ocolina-M2 with a length of 35 km; Corridor 8.1 and Corridor 8.2 - Cornești-Boghenii Noi - Napadeni-M5(G88) with a length of 33 km and Corridor 24 - R34-Ciobălaccia-Tărtaul-R56-Baimaclia-Enichioi-R37 with a length of 43 km).
At the same time, the border crossing points at Giurgiulesti, Leuseni, Ungheni, as well as the access roads to these Border Crossing Points will be upgraded and built.
In late April, the World Bank's Board of Executive Directors approved a financing package to the Republic of Moldova for Moldova Rural Connectivity Project (MRCP), which will help the country improve climate-resilient road connectivity in rural communities, increase road transit traffic through the border crossing points with Romania, and respond promptly and more effectively to crises and emergencies. The MRCP is expected to provide direct benefits to about 42,000 people, 133 businesses, 27 health institutions and 84 schools located along the rural road corridors selected for rehabilitation.
