Transition to digital terrestrial TV to end on 1 January 2022
Chisinau, 15 Dec. / MOLDPRES /- Transition process to digital terrestrial television in Moldova will end on January 1, 2022, with the cessation of analog terrestrial television. A draft law in this regard was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on 14 December.
The project aims to help increase the number of digital TV channels, which can be received free of charge from the airwaves, which will also intensify competition in the market for pay-TV services. It will also release the spectrum needed to implement next-generation 5G mobile communications services. At the same time, the project contains the legal framework for the implementation of digital terrestrial broadcasting in the Republic of Moldova.
The document also provides for the possibility for private TV channels to receive state aid for the broadcasting of programs of social importance, with educational, cultural, scientific themes.
Also, several TV channels will have the opportunity to broadcast its programs through Multiplex A with national coverage (more than 98% of the population), following the reduction of the tariff for broadcasting services provided by the provider of this multiplex.
