Voted in parliament: Moldovan citizens who worked legally in Canada to be able to receive social benefits
Citizens of Moldova who have worked legally in Canada will be able to receive pensions and other social benefits. The parliament today ratified the Social Security Agreement between the two states.
The document was presented in plenum by Secretary General of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection Ministry Dumitru Pislaru, who explained in detail the social protection mechanisms provided by this agreement.
"The purpose of this agreement is to provide social benefits to our citizens who have worked legally on the territory of both states. It is based on standard principles: totalization of periods, export of social benefits and proportionality. We are talking here about establishing the right to old-age pensions, disability pensions and survivor’s pensions," the cited source said.
The official said that, according to data presented by the Canadian authorities through Moldova’s embassy, in 2024 there were more than 30,000 Moldovan citizens on the territory of Canada.
To date, Moldova has signed social security agreements with 23 states, of which 18 have entered into force and are applicable. It is about the social security agreements signed between Moldova and Romania, Bulgaria, Portugal, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Austria, Estonia, the Czech Republic, the Kingdom of Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, Italy, Greece, Spain and Latvia.
