Moldovan government announces measures to reduce diesel deficit: stocks to be replenished with 12,000 tons of fuel

The government is announcing a string of actions to reduce the diesel deficit at some filling stations of Moldova. Thus, two barges loaded with approximately 6,000 tons of fuel have entered the country in the last 24 hours. At the same time, another 6,000 tons of diesel are expected to arrive in Moldova today.

The government’s spokesperson, Dumitru Ciorici, emphasized that the authorities continued to closely monitor the situation and would adopt, if necessary, additional measures to ensure the country’s stable fuel supply.

“The government has already taken measures to supply the market with diesel. In the last 24 hours, two barges loaded with approximately 6,000 tons of fuel have entered the country. We are also expecting today the arrival of a new shipment, with a similar capacity of about 6,000 tons of diesel. These additional volumes are meant to immediately reduce the existing deficit at some filling stations,” he announced.

Dumitru Ciorici noted that the main causes of the diesel shortage were linked to more external factors.

“The recorded deficit is caused by the low water levels on the Danube, as well as the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, which have trigered bottlenecks in transport chains, affecting fuel deliveries,” the spokesperson noted.

According to data presented by the authorities, as of July 27, this year, 53 filling stations (under 10 per cent) out of a total of 590 (of which 38 belong to the Lukoil network) did not have diesel stocks. By comparison, at the peak of the crisis in the spring of this year, on March 26, 182 stations had no available stocks.
