Moldovan deputy PM for European integration has talks with MEP

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov today in Chisinau had a meeting with MEP Manfred Weber, who is also the President of the European People’s Party, the largest political group in the European Parliament.

The officials discussed the European agenda of Moldova, the reforms implemented by the Moldovan authorities and future priorities.

“Support from European partners helps us move forward confidently on our path to the EU and deliver concrete results for citizens,” said Cristina Gherasimov.

The deputy PM thanked MEP Weber and his colleagues in the European Parliament for their trust and constant support for the country.

In September 2025, Moldova completed the bilateral screening with the EU – a stage that assesses the compatibility of national legislation with the EU acquis. In mid-December 2025, the country initiated technical discussions on the first negotiation chapters. The Moldovan authorities underlined that this stage marked a crucial phase of the accession negotiations, which will form the basis for future progress in the process of Moldova’s integration into the EU.

In late last week, Politico wrote that Moldova and Ukraine were close to the official launch of accession negotiations with the European Union, after Hungary reportedly signaled that it was ready to drop its opposition to Ukraine’s candidacy. According to the outlet, which cited four European diplomats, the opening of the first negotiation “cluster,” a formal stage in the EU accession process, is to be discussed at an intergovernmental conference scheduled for June 15 in Luxembourg.
