President pays visits to European Parliament, Netherlands

President Maia Sandu is paying visits this week to the European Parliament, the Netherlands and Prague, Czech Republic, where she will participate in the Globsec conference, occasions on which she will promote the interests of citizens, partnerships for the security and development of the Republic of Moldova, and our country’s accession to the European Union.

On 19 May, in Strasbourg, where the European Parliament is holding its plenary session, the President will hold discussions with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and with representatives of the political groups: the European People's Party (EPP), the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), Renew Europe, the Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA). At the same time, President Maia Sandu will be awarded the European Order of Merit, a distinction established by the European Parliament on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, granted to personalities who have made a significant contribution to promoting European values and strengthening the European project.

On 20 May, the President will be on a working visit to the Netherlands, where she will meet with Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen. At the end of the meeting with the Prime Minister, the two officials will deliver joint press statements.

On 21 May, at the invitation of the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, Maia Sandu will participate in the Globsec Forum in Prague, one of the most important international platforms dedicated to security and foreign policy. On the margins of the event, the President will hold a bilateral meeting with President Pavel and will deliver an address on the Republic of Moldova’s experience in protecting democracy and resisting foreign interference.

The visits this week aim to advance citizens’ interests in building a safe and prosperous country through partnerships and the country’s future membership in the European Union.
