Today President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu paid a working visit to Tallinn, where she met with President Alar Karis, Prime Minister Kristen Michal, Speaker Lauri Hussar and Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna. The head of state also held a meeting with former President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves and took part in Lennart Meri Conference, the annual security forum in Tallinn named after Estonia’s first president.

The discussions focused on deepening bilateral relations, regional security, and Estonia’s support for Moldova’s EU accession process. In this context, the President welcomed Estonia’s decision to open an embassy in Chisinau in the autumn of this year, a concrete step that reflects Tallinn’s commitment to its relationship with Moldova and to our country’s European path.

“Estonia is a reliable friend and a supporter of the Republic of Moldova’s European path, from which we have much to learn — from digitalization and cybersecurity to how it managed to build strong institutions and a resilient society,” Maia Sandu said.

At Lennart Meri Conference, the President shared Moldova’s experience in withstanding hybrid attacks and the efforts undertaken to protect democracy.

The working visit to Tallinn is part of a series of high-level contacts between the two countries, which have intensified significantly in recent years against the backdrop of common security challenges and the European trajectory of the Republic of Moldova.
