General Police Inspectorate recorded 12 incidents and alleged violations during new local elections

The General Police Inspectorate (GPI) recorded today 12 incidents and alleged violations of electoral legislation during the new local elections and local referendums held in 12 localities across the country.

According to the GPI, two cases of electoral campaigning were reported in Taraclia district and two cases of electoral campaigning on social networks were recorded in Cantemir district.

At the same time, law enforcement officers were notified of two cases of photographing ballot papers in Orhei and Ialoveni districts. Likewise, two cases of organized transportation of voters were recorded in Orhei and Cantemir districts. Police officers also recorded four cases concerning other incidents and alleged violations in Ialoveni, Orhei, and Cantemir districts.

Law enforcement continues to ensure public order and perimeter security of polling stations until the completion of the vote-counting procedure. New local elections for the position of mayor were held today in the village of Costești and the commune of Ruseștii Noi in Ialoveni district; the village of Mașcăuți, Criuleni district; the commune of Sărătenii Vechi, Telenești district; the town of Taraclia, Taraclia district; the municipality of Orhei, Orhei district; the village of Topala, Cimișlia district; the village of Plop, Dondușeni district; and the commune of Frumușica, Florești district.

In the village of Copceac, Gagauzia, a new composition of the local council was elected. In the commune of Sadâc, Cantemir district, and the village of Hăsnășenii Mari, Drochia district, local referendums to recall the mayors were held.

Polling stations closed at 21:00. In total, over 24,600 citizens took part in the voting process.
