Moldovan PM participates in third edition of Pro-Industry Dialogue
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today participated in the third edition of the Pro-Industry Dialogue, which brought together representatives of approximately 350 companies, public authorities and development partners in Chisinau. The event, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), is dedicated to the prospects for industrial development and enhancing the competitiveness of companies from Moldova.
During his discussion with entrepreneurs, the PM noted the positive developments in industry – industrial production increased by about 8 per cent in the first six months of the year, while exports rose by approximately 12 per cent in the first seven months. At the same time, Vasile Tofan emphasized that these results must be consolidated, by accelerating investment and modernizing enterprises, in order to increase productivity and the added value produced in Moldova.
The prime minister also referred to the need to build a more resilient economy, including by diversifying markets and reducing companies’ vulnerability to external shocks. The PM gave the example of the Glass Factory, which he previously helped transform from a loss-making enterprise into a successful business, highlighting the role of investment, technology and effective management.
“The government is making entrepreneurs’ lives easier, reducing bureaucracy and creating better conditions for investments and development. At the same time, I urge the business community to tell us directly what is not working and to call for the changes it needs, in order to become more competitive,” said Prime Minister Tofan.
In the context, the PM also touched upon the tax burden on labor. He noted that the measures adopted so far represent a first step, while in the next stages of tax reform, the government intended to achieve a more substantial reduction in labor taxes.
The Pro-Industry Dialogue includes sessions dedicated to industrial policies, business support mechanisms, human capital, innovation, European standards, digitalization and the use of emerging technologies to increase companies’ productivity and competitiveness.
