Prime Minister Vasile Tofan in Chisinau met European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis. The officials discussed Moldova’s European agenda, implementation of the Growth Plan, attracting investments and enhancing the productivity of the economy.

At a news conference held by the officials, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan emphasized that the accession process must translate into concrete results – more investments, better infrastructure and more efficient institutions. The PM reiterated the government’s determination to maintain the pace of reforms and its objective of preparing Moldova to sign the Accession Treaty in the coming years.

“The European integration is our national project. It is the idea that unites us and helps us build a more productive and better-governed country. We are determined to reach the finish line of this marathon and turn our objective into reality – for Moldova to become a full member of the European Union,” said Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.

The PM also referred to the implementation of Moldova’s Growth Plan, worth 1.9 billion euros, emphasizing the importance of transforming these resources into investments and projects that contribute to economic development. The prime minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline and the responsible management of public funds.

“We must ensure maximum impact for every euro and every Moldovan leu spent. This means more private investment, a more productive economy and a state that uses taxpayers’ money responsibly, including the funds provided by our partners,” said Vasile Tofan.

For his part, European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis welcomed Moldova’s progress in implementing reforms. The European official said that more than 500 million euros from the Growth Plan had already been made available to the country, while the reforms undertaken by June 2026 are currently being assessed with a view to disbursing a new 157 million euros installment. In addition, at the Moldova Investment Conference in last June, investments totaling 641 million euros were announced by international financial institutions and private investors.

“We must make the most of the opportunities offered by economic integration with the European Union, so that every household can feel the benefits. Moldova can count on our support on its path toward European Union accession. We will stand by its side every step of the way,” said Valdis Dombrovskis.
