Government to renovate national real estate fund over next 25 years
Government will renovate the national real estate fund to enhance the energy efficiency of buildings, which is a national strategic priority.
In this regard, the government has approved a Strategy that provides several solutions for modernizing and reducing the energy consumption of public, private, and residential buildings in the Republic of Moldova. Most of them were built before 1990 and are energy inefficient, causing energy losses of about 50% and high costs for consumers.
According to the document, over the next 25 years, about 75% of the total residential building area is expected to be renovated, and the energy consumption reduced by 40%. The planned actions include thermal insulation of walls and roofs, modernization of heating and ventilation systems, replacement of windows and doors. For buildings connected to centralized heating, the vertical distribution system will be replaced with a horizontal one, and individual thermal energy meters will be installed. Thus, consumers will have lower thermal energy bills. Moreover, the renovation of the national building stock will contribute to reducing carbon emissions, which will have a positive impact on environment.
For the implementation of the Strategy, in the next 5 years, the government has identified financial resources from the state budget, external sources, and private investments amounting to 405 million euros. In the long term, it will continue to attract external funds and create mechanisms to encourage private sector involvement.
