VIDEO // Cristina Gherasimov visits Berlin: European integration and cooperation with Germany on agenda
Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov is paying a working visit to Berlin, where she will hold meetings with representatives of the German federal government, the Bundestag, development partners and civil society. The discussions will focus on the next stages of the Republic of Moldova’s accession process to the European Union and on strengthening cooperation with Germany.
According to the official, the visit’s agenda includes topics regarding the European path of the Republic of Moldova, as well as opportunities to deepen bilateral relations with Germany.
“We will discuss the next steps in our European path, as well as possibilities for more active cooperation with Germany. This dialogue is important, because major decisions regarding our European course are taken not only in Brussels, within the European institutions, but also in each of the 27 member states,” said Gherasimov.
The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that the support of the European Union member states is essential for advancing the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova, and that dialogue with the German authorities helps to consolidate political backing for the country’s European agenda. Germany is one of the main partners of the Republic of Moldova in the processes of modernization, economic development and European integration.
Through development cooperation, managed in particular by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Development Bank KfW, Germany has financed projects to modernize public services, improve water and sanitation infrastructure, increase the energy efficiency of public buildings, and support public administration reform.
The visit to Berlin takes place in the context of intensified diplomatic contacts between the Republic of Moldova and EU member states, following the official opening of accession negotiations and the launch of dialogue on the first cluster of chapters, Fundamental Values.
