Moldovan Speaker in talks with Czech counterparts

In Prague, Speaker Igor Grosu held meetings with his counterparts – President of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil and President of the Chamber of Deputies Tomio Okamura. The discussions focused on deepening cooperation between the two states, supporting the European path of the Republic of Moldova, and exchanging experience on the process of European integration.

“In the more than 20 years since it has been a member of the European Union, the Czech Republic has developed significantly. It has contributed over 33 billion euros to the EU budget and has received almost 76 billion euros. This money has been reflected in development, local communities, infrastructure, and the economy. This is the kind of path we are also aiming for as a country. I leave these meetings with the conviction that Moldova has chosen the right path, that we have aligned ourselves with model countries, and that these partnerships will help us become a European country as well,” Grosu said.

During the meetings, the official appreciated the constant support offered over the years by the Czech authorities to the Republic of Moldova and reaffirmed our country’s commitment to continue the reforms necessary for advancing the European integration process. “This is also the meaning of our European path: to bring development home, to the villages and cities of the Republic of Moldova. We have a lot of work to do, but we also have good friends who believe in us. The Czech Republic is one of them,” Grosu emphasized.

Grosu paid an official visit to the Czech Republic on 22–23 June 2026, at the invitation of his counterpart, the President of the Senate, Miloš Vystrčil. The visit aimed to strengthen Moldovan–Czech relations, including at parliamentary level, in the context of the Republic of Moldova’s strategic objective of joining the European Union.
