Moldovan president promulgates Law confirming that Romanian language is Moldova's state language
Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu informed that she today had promulgated the law which confirms that the state language is the Romanian one, the presidential press service has reported.
„Today, I promulgated the law confirming a historical and incontestable truth: the state language of the Republic of Moldova is the Romanian one. I want the Romanian language to unite us everybody who live here and who love this country. We, along with another more than 27 million people in the world, speak the Romanian language, one of the official languages of the European Union. Either it is our mother language, or we have learned it during the life, due to the Romanian language, we do not need translators: we understand each other in a word,’’ the head of state said.
At the same time, President Maia Sandu stressed that, ‘’those who have been telling us for decades in a row that we, the citizens of Moldova, speak the ‘’Moldovan’’ language and not Romanian – pursued a single goal: to divide us. And this because, once a nation divided, one can easier subjugate and control it. A divided nation does not represent a united force, which can protect itself. Those who tried to divide us did not care about linguistics, but about how to keep Moldova blocked in an eternal national quarrel,’’ the president noted.
Also, the head of state showed firmly confident that the Romanian language must be and can be the catalyst of the Moldovan society’s consolidation and for this, it must be respected and learned, as well as spoken by all Moldova’s citizens ‘’I am happy very much when I today meet young people of various ethnic groups who speak the Romanian language well. We can everybody support this effort, so that united we direct the energy towards the edification of a common future in the European Union, where all languages are respected and protected,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
