Chisinau, January 31 / MOLDPRES /- Academician Sveatoslav Moscalenco, an illustrious world-renowned scientist, university professor, PhD in physical and mathematical sciences passed away.
Academician Sveatoslav Moscalenco was born on 26 September 1928 in Bravicea village, Calarasi district. After graduating, in 1946, from the Orhei high school was admitted to the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the State University of Moldova, which he graduated with honors. In 1960, he returned to Chisinau, where he worked as a trainee scientific researcher at the Institute of Physics and Mathematics of the ASM. From 1964, when the Institute of Applied Physics was formed until the end of his life, he was head of the Semiconductor Theory and Quantum Electronics Department, and later, of the Laboratory formed on its basis. This direction has attracted an impressive number of researchers in various scientific centers of the world, who not only confirmed experimentally the phenomenon predicted by our compatriot, but also demonstrated its importance for practical applications. In particular, it was the basis for the development of a new type of laser - the polaritonic laser, with unique performance for medicine.
