Chisinau, January 31 / MOLDPRES /- Academician Sveatoslav Moscalenco, an illustrious world-renowned scientist, university professor, PhD in physical and mathematical sciences passed away.
Academician Sveatoslav Moscalenco was born on 26 September 1928 in Bravicea village, Calarasi district. After graduating, in 1946, from the Orhei high school was admitted to the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the State University of Moldova, which he graduated with honors. In 1960, he returned to Chisinau, where he worked as a trainee scientific researcher at the Institute of Physics and Mathematics of the ASM. From 1964, when the Institute of Applied Physics was formed until the end of his life, he was head of the Semiconductor Theory and Quantum Electronics Department, and later, of the Laboratory formed on its basis. In 1971 he obtained the title of PhD and in 1992 he became a full member of the Academy of Sciences.
60 years ago, he predicted for the first time the phenomenon of Bose-Einstein condensation, and thus opened a new direction in the physics of the solid body. This direction has attracted an impressive number of researchers in various scientific centers of the world, who not only confirmed experimentally the phenomenon predicted by our compatriot, but also demonstrated its importance for practical applications. In particular, it was the basis for the development of a new type of laser - the polaritonic laser, with unique performance for medicine.
The pioneering achievements of academician Sveatoslav Moscalenco have helped to promote the image of our country in the world. In addition, he created a real science school with many disciples. For his work, he was awarded the highest state distinctions and honorary titles: Order of the Republic, Emeritus Man, Laureate of the State Award, ASM medals Dimitrie Cantemir and Scientific Merit.
In these moments of great sadness, we express our respect for the notorious personality of academician Sveatoslav Moscalenco, the man who dedicated his life to scientific knowledge, for the benefit of the society of the Republic of Moldova.
