Presidents of Moldova, Romania say Romanian language carries country's history, preserves culture, connects people to values, traditions

President Maia Sandu, welcomed the President of Romania Nicusor Dan to Chisinau on the Romanian Language Day, to participate together in the events dedicated to this holiday. The two heads of state opened the third edition of the Great National Dictation, held on the Great National Assembly Square, attended by approximately 2,000 people.

"Mr. President, your presence here in Chișinău is a sign of friendship and solidarity, but above all a proof that the Romanian language stay the strongest bridge between the two banks of the Prut River. It carries our history, preserves our culture and connects us to our values and traditions," emphasized the Moldovan head of state.

At the same time, President Maia Sandu wished success to the participants in the Great National Dictation. "I thank you all for your love and care for our language. I wish you every success at the Great National Dictation. Regardless of the results you achieve, you are all winners—because you care about how you write and because you chose to participate in this holiday," noted the Moldovan president.

For his part, President of Romania Nicusor Dan, in his welcome message, said mentioned that "the Romanian language, beyond being an identity, is a responsibility for each of us. Romania and Moldova are countries with common values, which need each other and our responsibility is to help each other."

The Great National Dictation, now at its third edition, is organized by the Ministry of Education and Research and is open to all those passionate about the Romanian language. The winners will be awarded in September.

The Romanian Language Day has been celebrated in Moldova on August 31 since 1990. Events dedicated to this holiday take place throughout the country. Also today, President Maia Sandu and the President of Romania will participate in a string of cultural events in the central Straseni district.
