Moldovan president, European Commissioner for Agriculture discuss EU's support for agricultural producers
President Maia Sandu today met European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen. The discussions focused on the European Union's support for Moldovan producers and on the access of agricultural products to the EU market, as the EU recently announced an increase in export quotas for plums, table grapes, apples and cherries, as well as the elimination of customs duties for grape juice, tomatoes and garlic. This opening of the European market boosts the development of export and also contributes to strengthening the EU's agri-food security.
Another important topic of the discussion was the strengthening of the resilience of agriculture in the face of climate change. The sides also tackled the National Reforestation Programme, solutions for efficient water resource management, the need for investments in modern technologies and the cultivation of more resistant species - measures that ensure sustainable and competitive agriculture.
The meeting reconfirmed the joint commitment of Moldova and the European Union to back farmers by expanding trade opportunities and through concrete measures to adapt to current climate and economic challenges, also contributing to the preparation of the agri-food sector for the accession moment.
