Government prepares to deliver four more motor pumps to Chisinau City Hall and Apă Canal company
The Government has prepared today the delivery of four more motor pumps to the Chisinau City Hall and Apă Canal company, in the context of a potential crisis on the Dniester River. This was announced by the Government’s spokesperson, Dumitru Ciorici, who emphasized that the decision follows a request for assistance sent last week by the Chisinau authorities.
In total, the Government is supplying five units, with a total capacity of 5200 m³/h and the ability to transport water over long distances, so that the City Hall of the capital is fully prepared in the event of a crisis. One motor pump was already delivered on Friday.
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan previously announced that he ordered the release from the stocks of the Material Reserves Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) of several motor pumps to support the works to increase the capacity of the water intake station at Vadul lui Vodă, which is managed by the Chisinau municipality.
According to the Prime Minister, in recent days the Chisinau City Hall has requested the Government’s support for the provision of motor pumps needed for the capacity-enhancement works at the water intake station in Vadul lui Vodă, under the municipality’s management.
The Prime Minister called on all institutions involved, both those subordinated to the Government and those of the Chisinau City Hall, to cooperate in identifying the best solutions so that the residents of the capital are supplied with water in the event of a hydrological crisis.
The Republic of Moldova declared a state of hydrological alert on 28 July, for a period of 30 days, following a significant reduction in water resources in the Dniester River basin.
