Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi paid tribute in Kyiv to those who lost their lives in the war launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. The commemoration ceremony was attended by his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, as well as representatives of the diplomatic staff.

The officials visited the Lukianivka metro station, severely damaged as a result of Russian attacks. Afterwards, they went to Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti), where they honored the Ukrainians who died on the battlefield defending the independence, sovereignty, and freedom of Ukraine.

“The war of aggression, unprovoked and unjustified, continues, for the fifth consecutive year, to claim lives, separate families, and destroy villages and cities. The faces on the portraits displayed here in Independence Square remind us of the courage and dedication of those who defended their homeland, of the people who sacrificed their lives so that Ukraine could remain free,” said Mihai Popșoi.

In this context, the official emphasized that the resistance of the Ukrainian people contributes to the security of the Republic of Moldova and of the whole of Europe.

“This war must end. We stand in solidarity with Ukraine and remain united in defending peace, freedom, and the right of every nation to decide its own future,” Mihai Popșoi noted.

Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi is on a working visit to Ukraine at the invitation of the head of Ukrainian diplomacy in Kyiv, Andrii Sybiha.
