President Maia Sandu has met the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, on  visit to Chisinau on May 7-20, 2026.

The visit is taking place at a request of the Moldovan authorities to negotiate a new agreement under the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) — an IMF programme without direct financing, meant for countries that seek the institution’s support in strengthening their macroeconomic and fiscal framework without contracting loans.

The president reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to an ambitious reform programme, particularly in the areas of economic and fiscal policy, tax administration, financial stability and consolidation of the macroeconomic framework.

The partnership with the IMF is to complement Moldova’s EU accession agenda — a clear signal to development partners and investors regarding the country’s economic stability and predictability.
