ADMISSIONS 2026 // Open Day at Centre of Excellence in Construction: Hundreds of teenagers visited institution to discover professions of future
Hundreds of teenagers visited the Centre of Excellence in Construction today to learn more about the institution’s educational offer. The Open Day gave them the opportunity to discover the specialties that can be studied here, to talk to teachers and students, and to take part in workshops and interactive activities. The institution is developing and modernizing with the support of European Union projects, said the director of the Centre of Excellence in Construction, Lucia Țurcan.
The institution’s manager welcomed the teenagers gathered in the multifunctional hall of the Centre of Excellence, presenting the school’s history and its educational offer. Lucia Țurcan praised the young people’s interest in the activities organized as part of the Open Day.
"The institution is well known on the labor market of the Republic of Moldova, being the only educational institution that trains professionals in all construction fields – roads, ventilation, evaluation, architecture, interior design. We have ten specialties, nine of which are level IV, for college students, and one level III trade. The range of educational offers is very broad. In addition to classic full-time education, we also have dual education, which involves carrying out part of the studies in the institution and the other part with an economic agent. We also offer part-time education, intended for high school graduates, baccalaureate graduates and vocational school graduates," said Lucia Țurcan.
Tatiana Chetroșan, head of the Quality Assurance Department and coordinator of the project "Career Orientation and Guidance", emphasized the importance of organizing such events for future applicants.
"This event is about broadening as much as possible the vision and clarity regarding the professional programs promoted by our institution, in order to guide children correctly. Often, they imagine that a certain specialty looks a certain way. The Open Day offers them a deep perspective and opens wider the doors to everything that represents the ‘behind the scenes’ of a specialty. To avoid dropping out or school failure, it is important for students to understand which specialty they are choosing and what they will be doing during their years of study. From year to year, the number of applications submitted during the admission period increases, while we have a limited number of state-funded places," said Tatiana Chetroșan.
The teenagers were invited to take part in guided tours of the Centre of Excellence, visiting six workshops and engaging in interactive activities where they demonstrated their skills in design and drafting.
"Our department offers two of the most creative and attractive specialties: architecture and interior design. Studies last four years, and students learn to draw, to design, to create interiors, to find harmonious color schemes, and to calculate the technical aspects of architecture and design projects. These are two of the most in-demand specialties and we are glad that today we have many interested visitors who want to get to know us and find out what they could do in the future. Last year, the architecture specialty had the highest competition among colleges in the country. Young people integrate easily into the labor market, some even during their years of study, and here they also learn digital design," said Ceza Gheorghiță, head of the Architecture and Interior Design Department.
The Centre of Excellence in Construction offers young people the opportunity to take the baccalaureate exam as well as to learn a technical trade that is in high demand on the labor market, such as installer for heating systems, solar equipment, or ventilation and air conditioning systems. The institution’s students also delivered a master class on installing a classic solar tube, a modern system that operates on the basis of renewable energy sources.
"We are in the workshop for heat supply systems, where we have different types of heat sources – electric, gas and biomass boilers, and solar installations for heating water. We are presenting two specialties from the Centre of Excellence in Construction: heat and gas supply systems, and ventilation. The standard study program lasts four years. We have specialized literature, representative elements from the field, and the installations you can see in this workshop," explained Andrei Drăgan, head of the Technology, Equipment and Engineering Installations Department, to the future applicants.
The future candidates said they want to learn a profession that will ensure them a stable and well-paid future.
"I want to study interior design. I attend an art school, I like drawing and I think this specialty is a good choice for me. I know someone who studies architecture here and says it is a very good college." "I am interested in engineering. I like this field and there is always a need for such specialists." "I want to do design work. I like building, but I realize it is a complex field. You have to know a lot of things and, in addition to drawing talent, you must understand the essence of a construction."
The Centre of Excellence in Construction is the oldest vocational-technical education institution in the Republic of Moldova, founded in 1932. Over different periods it has gone through several reorganizations, and since 2015 it has been called the Public Institution Centre of Excellence in Construction.
"We are a modernized institution. We have a recently reconstructed study block and a renovated production workshop, which was built in 1964 and had not undergone modernization works until now. Thanks to European projects, we have managed to renovate both the study block and the production workshop. The institution also has dormitories. We have won two projects through which two more dormitories will be renovated by 2028. We collaborate with educational institutions in Italy, Greece, Georgia, Ukraine, Poland and Latvia and we are involved in numerous international projects. We are developing with the support of European Union projects," said director Lucia Țurcan.
The integration of European standards and new technologies into the educational process is one of the strategic directions of the Centre of Excellence in Construction. This process is supported both through curriculum modernization and active participation in international projects. ERASMUS+ projects play an important role, facilitating the exchange of good practices and aligning vocational training with European requirements.
More details about the educational offer of the Centre of Excellence in Construction can be found in the interview given exclusively to MOLDPRES by institution’s director Lucia Țurcan.
