We are proud Moldovan rescuers participated in international humanitarian operation - PM says
Chisinau, February 18 /MOLDPRES/- The rescue team of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) returned from the international mission to provide support in rescuing the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey. The 56 rescuers were greeted by family members, colleagues from IGSU, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Turkish Ambassador to Chisinau Uygar Mustafa Sertel, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
"You traveled over 2000 km to reach the devastated area, proving that the people of the Republic of Moldova are in solidarity with the other countries participating in this mission. You worked in more than 220 blocks on an area of 8 square km, and after an intervention that lasted more than 2 hours, you managed to save a child. We thank you for these results and because the flag of our country was carried with pride", said Recean.
Recean also appreciated the work of the teams of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Ankara, the Consulate General in Istanbul and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, which continue to provide the necessary support to our compatriots settled in Turkey.
IGSU head Alexandru Oprea said that this was the first mission of the search-rescue team in urban environments and the second participation of Moldovan rescuers in an international mission. At the same time, Oprea noted that thanks to the preparations of the last years, the team of our country is at the same professional level as the other teams in the world and thanked the Government for supporting the rescuers' efforts.
Turkish ambassador to Chisinau Uygar Mustafa Sertel also participated in the event, and expressed his gratitude to the Turkish authorities and people for the solidarity and support offered by our country.
The international humanitarian operation took place on February 6-18, being coordinated by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) of Turkey and the United Nations.
