United States-Moldova Strategic Dialogue held in Chisinau
Chisinau, March 15. /MOLDPRES/- A high-level meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the USA is held in Chisinau. At the beginning of the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Dereck Hogan held a press conference.
The head of diplomacy from Chisinau thanked the American partners for the support offered in the last year and noted that Moldovan-American bilateral relations "have never been stronger".
Nicu Popescu said that there will be four working groups at the meeting, which will discuss topics related to the consolidation of the rule of law and the fight against corruption, the country's security, commercial cooperation and energy resilience and the development of public diplomacy. "It is a good opportunity to expand the dialogue, but also to thank our partners for the support, including financial, given to our country. We welcome the return of the Peace Corps to our country", Popescu said.
Dereck Hogan, former ambassador to Chisinau was delighted to return to Moldova, which he called home. He said Moldova enjoys the support of the USA.
According to the US Embassy in Chisinau, the delegation present at the meeting includes Lisa Johnson, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs; Laura Cooper, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia.
Daniel T. Lasica, USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia also came to Chisinau; Mark Simakovsky, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Academic Programs in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs; Ethan Rosenzweig, Europe Director in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor; Tom Selinger, Peace Corps Regional Director for Europe, Mediterranean, and Asia, and others from the United States Government.
The United States-Moldova Strategic Dialogue was resumed in 2022 after a five-year break. The last meeting was held last April in Washington.
