Data of 2024 Census used in public policy development in Moldova
Census data and how they can be used in public policy development have been discussed at a meeting of the National Commission for the Population and Housing Census, chaired by Secretary-General of the Government Alexei Buzu.
“We must ensure that public decisions are based on data. This means analyzing the situation, making decisions, monitoring their impact and adjusting interventions where necessary. We must build this culture of data use in in the public administration,” said Alexei Buzu.
By September 2026, the National Bureau of Statistics (BNS) had published 13 data sets from the 2024 Population and Housing Census, including 235 tables, 118 infographics and 34 maps. They provide detailed information about the country’s population, households and living conditions and can be used by authorities to plan services and develop public policies.
To increase the use of census data at the local level, the BNS and the State Chancellery in last March organized four online sessions for approximately 900 representatives of local public authorities from all regions of the country.
In the coming period, the BNS will expand the tools through which the data can be accessed and analyzed. The launch of the GeoStatistica Portal, the development of the Population and Housing Census Atlas and the statistical synthesis publication, the publication of analytical notes and the completion of the Data Bank with information on the census’s main variables are planned.
The BNS will continue publishing the results of the 2024 Census and informing authorities and the public, so that the available data can be accessed and used as easily as possible in the decision-making process.
The 2024 Population and Housing Census was conducted as of April 8 till July 7, 2024, with the involvement of 4,750 people and the use of digital technologies and administrative data sources to collect and verify information.
