Estonia to continue providing expertise to Moldova in EU accession process

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today met Estonia’s Ambassador to Moldova Siiri Königsberg, with whom he discussed bilateral relations and Tallinn’s support for Moldova’s European integration.

During the meeting, Mihai Popsoi welcomed the start of the mandate of Estonia’s first resident ambassador to Moldova and the opening of the Estonian Embassy in Chisinau. The minister described this development as a new stage in the relations between the two countries and a confirmation of Estonia’s support for Moldova’s European path.

“We are pleased that Estonia is now present in Chisinau through a resident embassy. This is a strong political signal and a confirmation of the excellent relations between our countries. I am convinced that this presence will facilitate even closer dialogue and contribute to the development of new projects for the benefit of both countries,” Mihai Popsoi said.

The officials discussed Estonia’s support for Moldova’s advancement in the European integration process, as well as expanding cooperation in such areas as digitalization, institutional capacity building, security and defense and development cooperation.

Ambassador Siiri Königsberg reiterated Estonia’s support for Moldova’s European integration and expressed her country’s willingness to continue providing experience and expertise in areas relevant to the process of accession to the European Union.

The sides agreed to further deepen Moldovan-Estonian cooperation and capitalize on the opportunities created by the opening of Estonia’s permanent diplomatic mission in Chisinau.

The diplomatic relations between Estonia and Moldova were established on November 10, 1992.
