Moldovan PM meets with Head of Council of Europe Office in Chisinau

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has met new Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau Natalia Voutova, who began her mandate on August 1, this year. The discussions focused on the priorities of cooperation between Moldova and the Council of Europe, with an emphasis on strengthening democratic institutions, reforming the justice system, combating corruption and protecting human rights.

The PM appreciated the partnership with the Council of Europe and the expertise provided in implementing the reforms necessary to advance Moldova’s European path. The prime minister emphasized that the European integration process equally requires strong institutions, respect for democratic principles and a justice system in which citizens and the business community can have confidence.

In the context, the interlocutors discussed the measures needed to strengthen the rule of law and enhance trust in the justice system. The prime minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening Moldova’s profile as a safe and predictable country, including for investors.

A separate topic concerned expanding cooperation with the Council of Europe Development Bank, in order to implement infrastructure projects in the areas of healthcare, roads and irrigation, including projects provided for under the Growth Plan.
